| CELL PLANNING | ||
| Space Requirements | Minimum size for a cell is approximately 5' x 7', slightly larger if a toilet is to be installed. Federal prison cells average 8' x 10'. Solitary/isolation / strip cells, with no bed or toilet, can be as small as 3'6" x 7'. Standard doors are 3' x 7' and are available either hinged or sliding (boxcar style). | . Sample Cell |
| Construction | Depending on your security requirements, cell walls can be bars, cinder block, ply wood or wallboard over studs. A typical cell would have 3 cinder block, concrete or steel walls and one barred cell front across the front. | |
| Plumbing | Most prison combination sinks/toilets run on a pressurized water system. Typically they require 30 lbs pressure which usually means a 1" water line to your building. The water pressure is more important than the size of the water line. It is possible to install a pump to build the pressure. Typical home water lines are 3/4". | . |
